Start from the Church of Santa Maria Novella near the railway station and head towards the square outside to admire the beautiful Renaissance façade wanted by the Rucellai family and commissioned to Leon Battista Alberti. He had Florentine origins although he was born in Genoa and was famous for "De re Aedificatoria "; then you will proceed to the Medici Chapels in Piazza Madonna degli Aldobrandini to discover the famous Electress last member of this dynasty who kept all the precious masterpieces in Florence instead of ending up in the hands of foreigners.
The unfinished church of San Lorenzo and the monument to the leader Giovanni dalle Bande Nere by Bandinelli, Cosimo I's father, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Then the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi with the kneeling windows with their ashlar stones jutting from the wall face and smooth to climb to the ledge and all the benches around.
You will arrive in Piazza della Signoria crossing the religious district of Florence with the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the Baptistery and then beyond the Arno to the Palazzo Pitti trove of museums including the Palatine Gallery, the Silver Museum the Gallery of Modern Art, the Royal Apartments and the vast Boboli Garden.
